ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?

One of my goals as principal is to increase student interest in attending four year colleges. While college might not be for everyone I believe it is important to expose students to all options available to them. For this reason the last week in September will be College Week on the Jefferson campus. Students will participate in a number of activities to learn about college campuses, financial aid, applications, and admission requirements. The culminating activity for this week will be a trip to Stanford on October 2nd to watch Washington play Stanford in football. This will be a Saturday field trip leaving Jefferson School at approximately 11:00 a.m. and returning approximately 7:00 p.m. All students and their parents are encouraged to attend, although parents are not required to accompany their student. All attendees have the option of riding the charter buses or providing their own transportation. The tickets to the game are free, but each individual who will be riding the charter buses are required to pay $10.00 fee for transportation. This trip will be on a first come first serve basis and seating is limited.

Keena Turner Essay Contest

Former San Francisco 49ers line-backer Keena Turner visited Jefferson School in December to announce the Keena Turner Essay finalists and winners. Turner spoke to students about the importance of education and the reality of becoming a professional athlete. This is the eighth year that Turner has sponsored the essay-writing contest. The winners from Jefferson included: Grade 8 - Joey Sefcik, Grade 7 - Anna Bassett and Kevin Somogyi, Grade 6 - Conesha Washington, and Honorable Mention - Michelle Moore. Congratulations to all of the contests winners and a big thank you to Keena Turner for sponsoring such a fine program.
